We went through a stint where Ashley suddenly would no longer sleep in her room. It seemed at first like it was due to fear or anxiety about something, but recent events have made that apparent it was not the case.

For a while now, she has been falling asleep out on the couch with us sitting there, because she just would not go to sleep in her room. Then I would carry her in, put her in her crib and that was it for the night. About a month before her 3rd birthday, she then started not even allowing that, and many fights ensued. We tried changing the crib to a toddler bed, but no joy. Got an IKEA bed, and tried the “big girl bed” approach, nadda.

As a result she has been sleeping in our room, on her mattress, on the floor, for the past few months. Until recently… We found out about a week ago that my Mother and Father have been letting her still have a pacifier when she sleeps over. BAD grandparents! However… This brought up a thought. Pacifier, low pain item (other than being told we are failures for having a 3yo who sleeps with a pacie), high yield results (she sleeps in her room now, and falls asleep in there too!).

My advice? Who cares about a pacie. Just shove it in there. Apparently the real concern is at 5yo. If they are not off it by then, it is possible its a sign of an emotional stress issue that is greater than just “being afraid of monsters”. All the stuff about their teeth… Pffft. They lose em anyway and they will need braces no matter what, so screw it.

I was at court today since I got called for jury duty, and was waiting to be called/dismissed, and there was music playing in the distance. I was working on some project sketches in my notebook, and I swear, I suddenly started hearing one of Ashley’s toys. It was distinct enough, that I now had the damn song in my head, and couldn’t get it out.

Seriously, they need to put a warning label on these music toys, “may drive parents batty”.

Instead, flickr now hosts videos, so I am going to move the videos there, and make them invite only. If you want access, shoot me an email. You will need a flickr account, which is free, and you will need to tell me you nickname on flickr so I can add you to my friends/family list.

Apparently it works on babies too, since every time it plays on the TV, Ashley spins her head around to the TV. Probably because both mom and I keep singing it all the time. What’s interesting though is that when I sing it, and Ashley is not paying attention to me, she looks at the TV, even though it was me. So that means she has associated those sounds with the TV. LOL

Been off the posting wagon for a while because Ashley has been back to waking up constantly during the night. Seems to be more reflux problems, which should be growing out of, but isn’t for some reason. We are now on a waiting list for the Gastro specialist at Phoenix Children’s Hospital to figure out what is wrong. Currently we are giving Ashley the max dosage for her weight for Zantac, which of course thrills me to know end if you know how I feel about drugs in general… But since she won’t eat without it, we have no choice.

However, since she is now maxed-out on the dosage, she has started to sleep through the night, mostly. So i will try to get back to posting again. It’s hard to be creative and enthusiastic when your child is sucking the life out of you.
